Deodorant isn’t something that is particularly fun to read about or purchase, but is certainly a necessity for most of us. However, most deodorant has harmful ingredients like aluminum and parabens that we really don’t want to be putting anywhere on our bodies. Also, antiperspirant blocks sweat glands that are critical for releasing toxins. And I am fairly adamant about using natural products in efforts to heal myself. So recently while shopping at Walmart and realizing I was out of deodorant, I picked up a new natural deodorant to give a try. So here’s my Schmidt’s Natural Deodorant review!
The Ingredients
Of course when shopping for natural products you need to check the ingredients. There are so many fake “natural” products out there these days as the popularity of these products continues to grow. Their website says “Natural deodorant made with coconut oil, shea butter, and essential oils. No aluminum salts. No parabens.” They are Ecocert Natural Certified, and certified Cruelty Free from Leaping Bunny, which doesn’t have much to do with ingredients, but is a nice touch! So it looks like the ingredients check out!
The Smell
They have quite a few enticing scents, much more on the website than I’ve seen in stores. I got the Rose & Vanilla and I must say it smells very good! Lots of options here for any tastes.
The Consistency
One problem I consistently have with natural deodorant is the consistency. Especially in the winter, but for many of you that use AC – probably year round, my house is quite cold. These natural deodorants are frequently hard as a rock. I was happy to see that this maintained a pretty spreadable texture, if anything it needed a quick minute on my skin but unlike other brands, it actually did warm up quickly. So that was a big plus!
Does it Work?
It did for me! And to be honest, I can be pretty smelly sometimes. Remember, it is a deodorant not an antiperspirant, so it will not stop you from sweating. However, I did not have any noticeable odor all day long. Definitely gets an A for that!
Types of Formulas
Here is where I came to my issue. The one I picked up in the store is a baking soda formula. Unfortunately, after about two weeks I had to throw it out because I was beginning to develop a rash and irritation. In the past, I’ve experienced this with natural deodorants and it has come on more quickly. I assumed maybe this formula was better, or perhaps my skin had adjusted, but alas, no. This is a frequent issue for a lot of people which is why…
They have non baking soda formulas!
Upon checking out the website I see they have non baking soda formulas and an activated charcoal formula. So although the baking soda standard formula didn’t work for me, I’d be very interested in trying one of the baking soda free styles since I liked everything else about the product.
Conclusion
I hope you enjoyed my Schmidt’s Natural Deodorant review and found it helpful! Overall, I would definitely recommend giving it a try. They run for $9.99 a stick as of posting which I’d say is pretty normal in the natural deodorant world. Have you used this product before? Let me know what you think!
