I’ve been on a mission of refining my diet for a while now (you can see my experiment with the Carnivore Diet here). And I’ve bounced around with what I think is the ideal way of eating (for me), but one thing I am firm on is eliminating processed foods, along with soy and seed oils as much as possible.
When trying to maintain a mostly Carnivore diet, the biggest frustration I encounter is that it can get a bit boring. I was never the type that could eat the same meal even just two days in a row. Except pizza, I can always have pizza. Anyway, the best and easiest way to jazz up a boring meal is some sauce, but whenever I go to buy any of them I am disappointed to see they are almost all made with soybean and canola oils. Even when buying healthy organic brands.
That is until now! I have just recently found these sauces and dressings from Primal Kitchen and picked them up. The first two I bought were the Ranch Salad Dressing and Buffalo Sauce. Then I quickly went out and got two more – the Golden BBQ Sauce and Mango Jalapeño BBQ Sauce. As you can probably already tell, I’m a fan. But before the review, a quick back story on Primal Kitchen.
Primal Kitchen’s Story
Mark Sisson is the creator of Primal Kitchen brand. Long story short, he was an elite athlete that noticed his health deteriorating due to intense training and an unhealthy diet. After years of experimenting with what he ate and seeing drastic improvements in his health due to his new way of eating, he became a health author and blogger. This eventually led to the creation of the Primal Kitchen brand.
The idea behind these products is to fill that void of kitchen staples we all love, but can’t find without those nasty ingredients!
Primal Kitchen products have NO:
- Processed ingredients
- Artificial ingredients
- Added sugars
- Hydrogenated or trans fats
- Soybean oils
- Canola oils
- Artificial colors
- Dyes
- Waxes
- Chemical preservatives
Even better – many of the products are also organic!
My Review
Overall, I think these products are fantastic and I can’t wait to try more outside of just the dressings and sauces! Unfortunately, they seem to be in somewhat limited supply in my local supermarket.
My favorite is probably the Buffalo Sauce. It is a nice consistency, and the flavor is great. I love that it is made with Avocado Oil. I dump this on my ground beef and it’s a quick easy meal.
Frequently, I also pair this meal with the Ranch Dressing also made with Avocado Oil. The ranch honestly doesn’t taste that much like traditional ranch to me, but I still think it’s a really great taste. I may actually like it better. It is thinner than normal ranch dressing, so maybe not ideal for dipping although I think it would still work.
Both of the BBQ sauces (Golden BBQ Sauce and Mango Jalapeño BBQ Sauce) are great, but I haven’t really had the right food to try them on yet. I’ve only had beef around so far and I think I’d like them better with chicken. They are both thick and have a fantastic flavor. I did dip my steak in the Mango Jalapeño tonight and thought that was very tasty!
Overall, I love this brand and more than anything the idea behind it. They did not have to sacrifice on flavor whatsoever to make a wholesome and healthy product, as it should be. As far as price, I found it in my store for a bit over $5, which I thought was pretty reasonable considering the quality. I can’t wait to get my hands on more!
