What is Castile Soap?
Castile soap is a vegetable-based soap that was originally made of olive oil in the Mediterranean. It is all natural, non-toxic, and hypoallergenic so you can feel good about using it everywhere and on everyone! This is very important to me for my own health journey.
My personal favorite, and probably the most well known, is Dr. Bronner’s. There are a TON of different styles and scents to choose from! And all products are scented with essential oils, so no harmful fragrances.
How Do You Use It?
Well perhaps and easier question is how don’t you use it! You can pretty much swap it out for anywhere you would use soap, harsh cleaners, or vinegar (for cleaning…do NOT put this in your salad). Below are just some of the best ideas for using Castile soap.
(For the record, I do not recommend using it for a shampoo. It could be my hair or my water, but for a couple days it felt great, then I started to get a weird build up.)
1. Face Wash
Simply lather a small amount of Castile soap in your wet hands or a wet washcloth.
2. Body Soap
Castile soap also works great for the rest of your body. Just add a small amount to a wet wash cloth or loofah.
4. Laundry Detergent
Yes, you can use Castile soap for laundry detergent! Just us 1/3 to a 1/2 cup depending on the size of the load.
5. All – Purpose Cleaner
This one bottle can replace all those different cleaners you have cluttering up your cabinet. Use about a 1/4 cup to each quart of water and keep in a spray bottle.
3. Hand Soap
Quit buying endless small bottles of hand soap. A small amount of Castile soap (adjust to your liking) in a foaming dispenser will do the trick!
7. Clean Your Fruits and Veggies
All natural Castile soap is safe to use to clean your produce too! You still want to make sure you rinse it clean, but a small dash in a bowl of water will work here.
6. Shaving Lotion
Add a few drops to your hands and rub until foamy. Then lather up!
8. Eliminate Bugs On Your Plants
1 Tbsp. in a qt of water works as a great insect repellent on your plants both inside and out.
9. Dog Shampoo
Yup, it can even replace your dog shampoo! Just use a small amount and massage into wet fur and wash thoroughly.
10. Use it in a Bath
A couple squirts in your bathtub will provide a natural and soothing cleansing experience. (Note you won’t get bubbles like that picture!)
11. Clean Your Dishes
Use a 10 parts water to 1 part soap ratio to use Castile soap to hand-wash dishes.
12. Mop the Floors
Use about a 1/4 cup for every 1 to 2 gallons of water to mop your floors.
As you can probably see, there are endless uses for Castile Soap, and you can get it all from just one bottle. Essentially, you can use it everywhere you’d use soap or harsh cleaners. Castile soap has been huge in making my transition to all natural products this year!
